Updated: Best places for homemade ice cream in New Hampshire and New England

We're not trying to pat ourselves on the back or anything but my wife and I know where you should go for homemade ice cream. You see, we are kind of ice cream snobs and if it's not homemade we won't touch it unless it's the dog days of winter. During these dire times when most of the homemade places are closed and we have to find other options.

Anyway, we have searched high and low throughout New Hampshire and New England for the best ice cream stands so you don't have to.
Here are some of our favorites, enjoy.
  1. Kimball Farm, Westford, Lancaster, Carlisle, MA and Jaffrey, NH. My personal favorite is the peanut butter cup and my wife loves the salty caramel pretzel. (Moved to first on list)
  2. Hayward's, Nashua and Milford, NH. They opened in June of 1940 and the ice cream still tastes great. (Moved to second on the list)
  3. Hodgie's, Amesbury, MA. If you like Pistachio ice cream you must go here.
  4. Granite State Candy, Concord, NH and now open in Manchester, NH. They make their own candy and ice cream and that's why it's so good. My personal favorite is the Moon Tracks. And if you like chocolate sprinkles on your ice cream they use real pieces of chocolate, unbelievable! This is great place to stop on your way north to the lakes region or white mountains in New Hampshire. These guys get their milk from Contoocook Creamery, they really do make a great combination.
  5. Memories, Kingston, NH. It took us awhile to try Memories and we think you will agree that they have great ice cream. (Added to list)
  6. Whites Farms, Ipswich and Georgetown, MA. If you like pizza and ice cream go here as you can get both.
  7. Richardson's, Middleton, MA. These guys are open year round, thank you!
  8. Daily Scoop, Bristol and Barrington, RI. Great ice cream and worth a special visit. (Moved from top spot)
  9. Bedford Farms, Bedford and Concord, MA. Two great locations to choose from.
  10. Grams Ice Cream, Newburyport, MA. As good as grandma's, you bet, check them out!
  11. DownRiver Ice Cream, Essex, MA. How could we have missed this one? Fantastic ice cream! (Added to List)
  12. Lears Old Fashioned Ice Cream, Wiscasset, ME. Right next door to Red's Eats, go here for dessert.
  13. St. Clair Ice Cream, Watch Hill, RI. This is our first visit to Watch Hill in a long time, we won't soon forget the great ice cream.
  14. Dunne's, York, ME. After a day at the beach stop by for some old fashioned ice cream. (For those of you that are familiar with Brown's it has been replaced by Dunne's located just down the hill)
  15. Sullivan Farms Ice Cream, Tyngsborough, MA. Am I the only one who likes grape nut ice cream. It is very good here.
  16. Cherry Farm Creamery, Danvers, MA. We got the ice cream for our wedding at Cherry Farm so yes we love it.
  17. Seneca Farms Homemade Ice Cream, Penn Yan, NY. I know, not in New England but close, they do have really good ice cream, check them out if you are in the Finger Lakes of New York.
  18. Peaceful Meadows, Middleboro, Whitman and Plymouth, MA. Very good ice cream stand.
  19. Mount Desert Island Ice Cream, Bar Harbor and Portland, ME. The best ice cream we found in Bar Harbor!
