Room for improvement at the North Side Grille in Hudson

There is nothing like a great breakfast to get our day started. Because the work week is so hectic we don’t have time for a real breakfast so we look forward to the weekends to enjoy a great meal. We are always looking for a new place to try and with that in mind we recently drove by the North Side Grille in Hudson so we decided to go in and check them out.

The North Side Grille is not exactly located in a bustling city. Located on Derry Road in Hudson you really have to be looking for it or you will drive by the restaurant. For those of you who are familiar with the area it is in the former spot of the Melissa Hoffman Dance Studio. The outside is less than impressive as it looked more like a small office building.

Let me begin with what we see as their main positive which is the atmosphere. Upon entering the space, there is a small bar in the front, the dining area to the left, and a small waiting area to the right. The pictures on the wall are nice and makes you think of the Granite State – a moose and the Old Man of the Mountains. There is also a list of many of the towns in New Hampshire so they certainly have gone out of their way to make us feel welcome.

We ended up in the back of the restaurant near a door in a half booth. Looking over the menu it seemed that they had most of the standard items including omelets, French toast, pancakes, benedicts and waffles.

My choice was the North Side Skillet:

The theory of it seemed promising – eggs, melted cheese, potatoes, sausage, onions, and peppers. Unfortunately, there was hardly any flavor and everything seemed to be overdone. The toast had no butter nor was there any provided on the table.

My wife had an omelet with homefries and toast.

There wasn’t anything special about the meal. Very standard food and her toast was also lacking butter. So strange since neither of us asked for it dry.

The service could have been better. The staff needs to pay attention to details. My coffee cup was empty for 10 minutes until it was finally filled. Two servers walked by during this time and did not notice, however, they managed to fill the cups at the tables around me! Additionally, our table was right next to a waitress station where silverware was being rolled and the servers were chatting with each other. They seemed completely oblivious that we were trying to have a relaxing breakfast. This was annoying and the station should be moved where it does not interfere with their customer’s meal.

In conclusion, The North Side Grille is a new restaurant that has a number of areas for improvement. While the atmosphere is fine, please work on the service and quality of food.
