Restaurant Review: The Copper Door, Bedford, New Hampshire, Disappointed

There has been a lot of hoopla and fanfare over this restaurant that finally opened recently in Bedford. I mean, let’s face it, there has not been much to cheer about in this area since CR Sparks closed their doors.

I was very excited to try this place given that I am a fan of their other restaurant, that being T-Bones. The reviews on Yelp have not been kind to The Copper Door and made me think that it can’t be this bad.

So, we parked and I walked up to the front and you will not believe this but it was a big, heavy copper door, now I get it. Anyway, you walk into a very nice open space and a friendly smiling staff and hostess. The décor is beautiful and inviting with paintings and lot of light shining through.

We arrived as part of a group and I couldn’t wait to try the food. Our server came over and asked us for our drink order and she was friendly and courteous. The lunch menu arrived and as I looked it over thought, hmmm, this seems really small. I know, keep it simple and it makes it a lot easier for the kitchen but I would like to see a few more sandwich items.

Anyway, I decided to go with CBLT (Grilled Chicken, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato) and my companion had the Exclusive Reserve Cheddar Bacon Burger. These were nothing special as the bun used on both was dry. Please, I’m begging you, find something else to use for bread. The hand cut fries that were served along with the sandwiches were good. Others in the group had the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. It’s tough to screw up a grilled cheese and I think everyone was pleased; however, I did have a comment about the bisque that it had too much fennel.

Although I didn’t have any of the deserts (dam, New Year’s resolution and diet) but those who did said the CopperCupcake and Chocolate Sin Cake were delicious.

Our server was professional and did what she needed to do, no complaints.

There you have it, unfortunately, I can’t recommend the Copper Door and yes, I am very disappointed. I understand that they just opened but it’s not like these guys have never run a restaurant before. The service and décor were wonderful; however, this is a restaurant and ultimately should be judged on the food which was mediocre at best. I probably will go back at some point but not for a while.
