Go to Mr. Mac's for comfort food

Having to deal with one of the worst winters in recent history, my wife and I decided that we needed something to help get us through the daily drudgery. How can we get through one more snowy day without selling our house, quitting our jobs and moving to a warm climate? Not having much luck in picking the winning lottery numbers, we opted for something that we knew would pick up our spirits - comfort food. We gravitate towards mac n cheese as one of our favorites. If you are looking for a place that makes it as good as your mom and treats you like a valued customer, you will be pleased to know that we found such a restaurant.

We visited Mr. Mac's this past weekend and to say we were impressed would be an understatement. If you are a mac n cheese fan you are going to love this place. There are the tried and true selections including lobster, chicken cordon bleu, scampi and tuna to name a few of their 16 options. You can also create your own so no need to be shy! There are three different sizes you can order: the large if you are really hungry or looking to feed a few people, the medium to ensure leftovers, and the small if you just want a little something. These are cooked in a cast iron skillet and be very careful when they are brought out because the plates are extremely hot.

Our first choice was the Philly cheese steak:

Covered in crispy fried onions this had a nicely browned top with cheese, cheese and more cheese. Beneath you will find al dente not soggy green peppers, tender sliced beef and of course additional cheese with plenty of elbow pasta. If you remember the crunchy outside part of mom’s homemade macaroni and cheese you will appreciate how this is was assembled and prepared.

Next was the Chicken Bacon Ranch:

We liked the Philly cheese steak over this one. Still an excellent choice for anyone who prefers chicken over beef.

The staff here have been trained well because they exude friendliness at all times. Smiles are seen on everyone. You will constantly hear the staff asking the customers how is everything. This is to make sure the customers are in fact happy with their meal and experience. In fact, a member of the staff stopped by the table next to us and told the guests that they had inadvertently been overcharged for one item. They gave them their money back and the family was grateful and impressed that the error was caught.

Customers vary from young to old, many families with children and not a frown in the place. How could you not be happy when munching on delicious mac n cheese? As a customer you can sit down or take it out and you can also bring some home to cook in your own oven. Remember that this is not a full service restaurant although the staff does bring over your order and clears away your plates.

As far as we know this is the one and only Mr. Mac’s and we hope they keep it that way. A unique and warm restaurant that you should definitely visit to give yourself a boost during these snowy times.
