For those of you who love a great breakfast, you will find it at Janie's Uncommon Cafe in Londonderry. They are at the top of our list of the best in New Hampshire and they have some exciting news that we wanted to share. Janie's is moving (hopefully by the end of March) to the former location of TJs Bagel & Eatery which closed at the beginning of 2014. Truth be told I will miss the bagels at TJ's but with Janie's moving in we should all be thankful that this location is finally getting the great restaurant that it deserves.
We are big fans of the owners, Jane Tuerck and Tim Frost and certainly we aren’t alone in this club. We weren’t too surprised to learn that they needed to move to a larger space since Janie’s is very popular. To be fair, the current space just doesn’t lend itself to future expansion since they are located in a mall with tenants on both sides. What is particularly ironic about the move is that they had originally started TJ’s many years ago and have now come full circle back to where it all began. It is our understanding that the new space will be larger with more dining tables and a smaller kitchen. This is important given that their current kitchen is huge but it makes for a lot of wasted space. So over the next few weeks they are renovating the inside of TJ's and we are definitely looking forward to seeing the new Janie’s Uncommon Cafe.

For folks in the Derry/Londonderry area, you might be familiar with Janie & Tim as they owned and ran the Depot Square Steakhouse at the Railroad Depot in Derry. The restaurant was wonderful but sadly it was forced to close a several years ago when the economy took a downturn in 2008.
We were very happy when we learned that they opened Janie's Uncommon Café in 2009. There are a number of reasons why this stands above the rest. The food is always delicious and hot. It doesn't matter how many times we’ve visited over the years because the food tastes as good as it did the first time. While the servers are all top notch, professional, and courteous, ultimately it is the skill and expertise of the owners that really make the difference. Janie in the front of the house welcoming her customers (she knows most of her customers by name) and watching everything with eagle like precision, as soon as a table is empty a team is on it to clean and make it available as quickly as possible so the next customers can be seated. With Tim in the back of the house, everything that goes out is hot and of the highest quality. We can hear his voice in the background letting the wait staff know when something is ready to ensure that it doesn't get cold.
