The Kellerhaus in Laconia

Nothing says summer like ice cream and one of our favorite ways to enjoy it is with a make your own sundae bar. However, like a lot of very good things these days, it’s difficult to find many options to do this. Not to worry because there is a place in New Hampshire. All you need to do is drive north to Weirs Beach and stop in at the Kellerhaus.

This is another one of my wife's discoveries dating back to her youth. As you enter the parking lot, you can’t help but notice that the building looks like a transplanted house from Germany that was taken straight out of a fairy tale.

A structure that appears to have been floated down the Rhine River and across the ocean to New England. Then lifted over the land by a giant who knew that inside was much more than some magic beans.

The Kellerhaus is any kid or adult kids dream. As you peer under the hood and walk through the front door you see what treasures await.

Candies, jellies, jams and nuts along with a gift shop. If that isn't enough they have a weekend waffle breakfast.

But let's face facts, we think the main reason to go is the sundae bar.

There are many different flavors of ice cream to which you select as your base. Going through the line you will find strawberries, pineapple, nuts, sprinkles, coconut, and candy. Don’t forget to top it off with whipped cream or my wife’s favorite marshmallow. With such a variety of ice cream and toppings to satisfy any sweet tooth, the Kellerhaus has everything you need.

We visit at least once each year during the warmer weather. If you are in the area and love a good sundae bar you should definitely stop in and give them a try.
