Salt at the Wentworth by The Sea in New Castle

We recently celebrated a special day and the choice of venue was the Salt Kitchen and Bar at the Wentworth by The Sea in New Castle. For several weeks leading up to the event, there were many details that needed to be finalized and it was my wife’s responsibility to make sure that everything went smoothly. I was confident that all would be fine but she was wringing her hands with worry up until the very end.

Upon entering the restaurant and passing their busy bar area, my wife had gone ahead and asked me to gather the rest of our party since our table was ready for us to be seated. I found the group but somehow my wife had disappeared. In the distance through the dining room I could see her waving me on into a private room. Unknown to me at the time we had been seated in the wine room.

If your party wants a private space, there is no question that this is a great option, however, there are a few caveats. Larger parties get first preference and would be taken first over a smaller one. Additionally, the guaranteed food and beverage minimum is $1,200 so if you really want this room and don’t want to risk being bumped, this is what you can expect to pay. Not to worry - there is a large beautiful dining room for smaller groups of guests.

After settling in wine was the drink of the day for this event. In addition to a large selection of bottles you can purchase by the glass. My choice along with my brother-in-law was the Dark Horse, a smooth Cabernet Sauvignon with hints of smoke, spices and cassis. The ladies steered towards the sweeter with a Zinfandel and Riesling.
The starter choices were varied with some simple and others more refined. Cesar and roasted beet salad along with lobster bisque were a few of the delicious beginnings.
Not to be outdone by the appetizers, selected entrees included the chicken saltimbocca, pan seared king salmon, handmade pappardelle pasta and beef tenderloin. There were no complaints here and the consensus was that all would be recommended for other diners.

We were extremely pleased with our waiter who provided professional service on a very special night. It’s interesting to note that when the entrees came out there was an army of nine servers that entered the room all at once. Then standing behind each guest all the entrees were placed in front of each guest at the same time. I have never seen this done before but it certainly was appreciated.
My wife ordered a cake for dessert. It was a gold cake with raspberry mousse and frosted in white buttercream.

The cake was delicious – light and airy. This coupled with an amazing bouquet of flowers really were the perfect ending to the night. Most important of all was the wonderful time our guests of honer had celebrating their special night at Salt Kitchen and Bar.
