Old Salt 30 years in business and still going strong

We have been aware of The Old Salt Tavern for many years but never thought to stop in for a visit. A fixture in the seacoast for 30 years, they are at the same location as Lamie's Inn on Route 1 in Hampton. As luck would have it our travels recently brought us to the area so we decided to check out lunch at the Old Salt.

My initial impression is that this is a popular seacoast lunch spot. I, for one, didn't expect the restaurant to be very busy and would have been wrong. There were a number of larger parties as well. The dark woods and pictures shine through from a historical perspective seemingly transporting you back to a simpler time when life wasn't so busy.
Food choices zero in on seafood but they have plenty of other options whether it be steak, chicken or pasta. We decided to start out with haddock chowder:

I liked the consistency that had a creamy edge and wasn't too thick but not watery either.

Since we stopped in during lunch we were searching for something less filling. They have sandwiches, salads and smaller portions of fried seafood.
The haddock basket was my choice:

These were okay but would not be my first choice again and instead would recommend the scallop basket that my wife had.

The lunch portion was a good size which made my wife happy since the scallops were delicious with a sweet flavor. The French fries had a nice crispy texture.
No meal is complete without dessert and we went with the mud pie.

My wife is a sucker for an Oreo crust and coffee ice cream. She was very pleased with this version!
Even after 30 years the Old Salt is still going strong. We enjoyed our visit, please check them out if you are in the area.
