NH Restaurants Open on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve

In about three weeks Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be upon us. For those looking for a nice meal, the choices are limited.

Not that we haven’t thought about cooking in.  For years I have considered preparing the feast of seven fishes that is typically held on Christmas Eve with seafood dishes that have an Italian influence. Perhaps a modified three fishes would be more my style and take less time. Until that happens our preference-of course-is to eat out.  That usually means a visit to a Chinese or Japanese restaurant.

Christmas Day is more difficult and NH Reviews is unsure on this one because anyone who wants to eat out should be able to even on the holiday. But then we think about the waiters, waitresses, cooks, owners and everyone else in the business who deserve a day off to spend with family. Either way here are some suggestions.

1. Hanover Inn, Hanover. They are open Christmas Day serving their regular dinner menu plus a couple of special items that were unknown at the time of our call. Reservations are available from noon to 7:30 pm and filling up fast. Please call (800)443-7024.
2. Lakehouse Grille, Meredith has a Christmas Day Buffet from 11:30 am to 5 pm at $42.95 for adults and $24.95 for children. Reserve your place at (603) 279-5221.
3. Copper Door, Salem and Bedford. They are offering a special Christmas Eve price fixed menu all day starting at 11:30 am. Two courses are $59.00 with three at $69 and four offered at $79 per person. When we called last week they were already filling up fast so reservations are strongly recommended for Bedford (603) 488-2677 and Salem (603) 458-2033.  Copper Door is closed on Christmas Day.
4. Wentworth By the Sea, New Castle.  A buffet will be offered from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in the ballroom on Christmas Day at $54.95 for adults and 24.95 for children. Reservations are required and can be made online here. At Salt Kitchen and Bar and in the Grand Dining Room they have a three course price fixed menu from 1 pm to 10 pm at $54.95 for adults and $24.95 for children. Reservations recommended at (603) 373-6566 or (603) 422-7322.
5. Bedford Village Inn, Bedford has a three course Christmas Eve fixed price menu from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm at $79.00 for adults and $39.00 for children. Call (603)-472-2001 to make a reservation. There is a Christmas Day menu at the Grand but that is only for registered guests.

Whether for take out or dine in Chinese and Japanese restaurants offer advantages. Many are open so if you have a favorite there is a chance they might be an option. Additionally, price fixed or buffet menus offered at fancier restaurants can get expensive especially for a large family so this will do less damage to your wallet. A few recommendations follow.

1. Ichiban, Concord. They have a fun bar environment along with sushi and hibachi entrees. Serving regular hours on the 24th and most likely closed on the 25th. (603)223-3301.
2. Moritomo, Concord. Try their chicken cheese maki for a unique and delicious dish. Open both Christmas Eve and Day. (603)224-8363.
3. Chen’s Garden, Manchester. Both Japanese and Chinese including sushi, fluffy lo mein and poo poo platter. Working regular hours Christmas Eve and Day. (603)836-5608.
4. Lilac Blossom, Nashua has a professional staff at one of the best in the area. Both locations open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day from noon to 8:30 pm. The noon opening is subject to change by an hour or so.  Amherst Street (603)886-8420 or Dunstable Road (603)888-9588.
5. Aloha, Manchester. Hang out with Billy Wong, the nicest owner found anywhere. Open both Christmas Eve and Day, reservations strongly recommended at (603)647-2100.
