Restaurant Review: Johnson's Seafood & Steak, Northwood, New Hampshire: Worth a trip

If hunger pangs hit you while driving between Concord and Portsmouth on Route 4, I suggest you stop in at Johnson's Steak and Seafood in Northwood. This is a family restaurant with all the comfort foods of growing up in New England. I remember visiting the restaurant for ice cream on trips back from the seacoast and the beach. It has been awhile and I have grown up since then but the good food and great service remain the same.

On a recent visit, I chose to start my meal with a cup of fish chowder. This version is very different from a lot of New England chowders in that it is lighter and not as creamy. There is nothing better to enjoy on a cool day and although it is unique you should give it a try.

Next, for the main meal, I went with the fried haddock and steak tips. The haddock was light and flaky and the tips were tasty as well and cooked just right. You will also find homemade baked bread, fried clams and shrimp, lobster rolls, and the chicken tenders are pretty good too!

Needless to say, I was stuffed at this point but there is more if you have sweet tooth. You should know that I am a dessert snob and if it's not homemade I won't eat it. On this visit I decided to go with the pumpkin roll with ice cream, delicious. At the same time I noticed someone at another table who had a brownie sundae that looked big enough to serve three people. You can order the desserts to go and they have a large case up front where you will see cookies, whoopee pies etc.

I strongly recommend Johnson's Steak and Seafood. It's worth a trip.

And don't forget their other locations in New Durham and North Berwick, Maine. Johnson Seafood & Steak Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
