Although the Derry Restaurant & Pizza may not sound like much, there is a lot to like about this restaurant. Images of subs & pizzas might come to mind – at least that was our reaction when we first drove by. I honestly don't remember why we decided to try it a few years ago but we are certainly glad that we did.
It has been a while since our last visit and we were both in the mood for good chicken parm so we headed for Derry. The first thing you notice when you enter the restaurant is that the dining room is surprisingly roomy. There is also a bar area off the dining space for those that want to watch a game.There is nothing glamorous about the restaurant, think good food and service and you will be on target.
Their menu is large everything from appetizers, Italian specialties, broiled and fried seafood as well as pizza and subs. One of my wife’s favorite entrees is the Chicken Valentino. This is a lightly breaded grilled chicken topped with mozzarella cheese and asparagas. Be sure to ask for a side of spaghetti sauce to dip the chicken in. It’s so good.
We usually order their potato skins to start but ended up trying something a little different, the fried mushrooms:
We liked the presentation in the basket. Apparently other diners did as well since we overheard several tables ask what they were. These were cooked just right served with meat marinara sauce for dipping, delicious.
As I mentioned earlier, we were in a chicken parm mood so we ordered up a couple of those for dinner:
The portion size is huge. We had plenty of leftovers for the next day. Full of chicken, pasta and cheese, this should take care of those hunger pains.
Our waitress was pleasant and friendly. She has been our waitress before and always does a great job.
Don't forget the desserts which we understand are all homemade. Although we didn't have any today, we have enjoyed the red velvet cake and the carrot cake.
You won't see the Derry Restaurant & Pizza on the list of the world’s finest restaurants but you will have a good meal at a great price. If you live in Derry or find yourself looking for a place to eat in the area, we recommend that you check them out.
