Go to Bubby's you'll be glad you did

Our first review of the New Year brings us to Portsmouth and the delicatessen Bubby's. Having seen their sign on a few prior visits to the area we thought about going but it never worked out. After mulling it over and wanting to find a new place for breakfast, I finally convinced my wife the time had come for us to check them out.

Unless you live in New York finding a decent delicatessen is difficult and Bubby's is trying to bring an authentic version to the Granite State. This endeavor started out with the owner seating my wife while I was parking the car. She commented that he was very nice and pleasant to speak with. Upon my return I noticed that the interior was filled with tables and a counter in the back.

In addition to traditional breakfast favorites they have some specialties such as French toast made with challah, blintzes and nova lox with cream cheese sandwich. Our choices were the brisket and corned beef hash Benedict's.

Instead of a typical English muffin crispy onion and potato latkes are used as the base. Needless to say we loved these and strongly recommend that you sample them for yourselves. These were half orders with one poached egg each at $8.99 and was plenty to eat for us. A larger two poached per order option is also available for $13.99 if you are really hungry.

And if that wasn't enough, we tried a Knish. The flavors vary but this day’s special was potato and onion which we chose.

A beautiful browned outer pastry filled with mashed potatoes and sautéed onions. You will be pleased that you ordered this delicious comfort food.

The food, service and general feel of Bubby's makes it all worthwhile. This is an excellent delicatessen and you should make a point to try it the next time you are on the seacoast.
