Mel's Diner Planning To Open At Funway Park In Litchfield

Apparently, there is a brave soul planning to open a new restaurant at Mel’s Funway Park in Litchfield.  They hope to start business operations mid to late January.

To be named Mel’s Diner, the restaurant will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is going to be family oriented and focus on comfort foods such as American chop suey, chicken pot pie, meatloaf and fried haddock.   They are also offering an unbelievably low daily breakfast special at $1.99 that includes 2 eggs, home fries, toast and coffee.

The number of failed dining establishments here is high. There was Greenfield’s, Naticook Grill, Woodman’s, Funway Burger and most recently Gale Motor Company. The problem that we have mentioned before is the location. Once Mel’s Funway Park is closed for the season the restauranteur has to rely on locals or those traveling a distance. This is a major problem in winter when you have a February like we did a few years back when there was a snowstorm every weekend.

To give you an idea of how bad it can get, back when Greenfield’s was around. A waitress told us that she only had one customer all night. That isn’t going to work.

Now maybe if everyone in town supports the business with frequent visits and the prices are kept low then possibly this could be successful. The food needs to be exceptional so they can attract customers from out of town.

We wish the owner luck but have our doubts. Please prove us wrong. Rest assured that once open NH Reviews will be stopping in for a visit.
