Why Did Portland Pie Company In Nashua Close?

The news of the closing of Portland Pie Company in Nashua has been known for some time. We understand that they stopped selling pizza back in September and wondered what happened.

They also had another location in Reading, MA that had gone out of business so NH Reviews tried to find out if this was a trend with the latest Nashua closure. While in Manchester near their only surviving NH restaurant, we walked in to find out the scoop. They told us the restaurant did not have a lot of customers. That seemed obvious so perhaps the location was the result.

At 14 Railroad Square one of their biggest problems became evident in front of the now empty building. The parking lot has very few spaces so unless you were walking from somewhere else downtown this limited the number of potential driving visitors. But what about the inside, food, service etc...

To be fair, NH Reviews did visit Portland Pie Company when they first opened in Manchester and did not love the restaurant. But that was a long time ago and we never went back to any of their restaurants including Nashua. If you take a look at some of the Yelp reviews they had three stars and a mixed bag with some good and others noting bad food or service. The business manager from Portland Pie did respond in a number of cases.

In conclusion, this was most likely a combination of a bad choice of location along with food quality and service going downhill that led to their demise. Any restaurateur who is reading this should think long and hard before leasing this space in Nashua.
