Road Trip to The Maine Diner, Wells

With the upcoming holiday weekend right around the corner, my guess is that many of you are traveling and Maine may be on your destination list. You could take I95 and yes it is faster but we prefer the more scenic drive that you find along Route One. Normally when we take a quick day trip we tend to stick with the Ogunquit/Kennebunk area. Not because we don't want to venture further but we usually find all the restaurants and things to do further south. On this particular trip to Kennebunkport we decided to stop at the Maine Diner for dinner on the way home. We’ve traveled by this landmark for years and noting that the lines weren’t as long as normal, we finally agreed to give it a try.

You might be thinking to yourself, what is the big deal? If you love comfort food like we do then you should definitely plan to stop on by. I wasn't sure about this one either at first either but for anyone driving along Route 1 and with all the restaurant choices this is a great option.

To set the stage, the place was busy and we ended up waiting a very short time until a small table opened up in the middle of it all. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer throughout helping us navigate the menu and all of her recommendations were spot on.

Seafood chowder with a nice buttery top layer.

Cornbread with butter, yum!

Chicken Pot Pie with a tender crust and plenty of chicken chunks.

Lobster Pie was baked with a seafood stuffing and drawn butter was served on the side. How can you resist lobster when in Maine? Served with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Everything was delicious.

For dessert, chocolate fudge layer cake.

Blueberry Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream.

We look forward to our next visit and we hope you will have a positive experience too. Want to know how far it is from you to The Maine Diner. Click on the map below for directions.
