Experience breeds success at Smokeshow BBQ

After many years of working in restaurants, Matt Gfroerer decided that it was time to venture out on his own so he opened Smokeshow BBQ in Concord. Located in the same plaza as Planet Fitness, it is easy to reach from either I-93 or 393. Finding decent restaurants in this sector are few and far between but we were excited to find out whether this would be a decent option.

Like most BBQ joints don't expect anything fancy. You walk in to the front counter to put in your order and there are a few tables but that is it. Meats can be ordered by the half or quarter pound and they also have sandwiches. There are ribs, brisket, turkey, pork loin, sausage and a combination plate of three choices. Sides include mac n cheese, potato salad, beans, coleslaw apple sauce and corn bread.

We started out with a couple of half pounders beginning with the smoked turkey.

This was so good that we returned a week later for more. A beautiful smokey flavor made even better after dunking in their house barbecue sauce.

Next was the brisket.

The brisket also held up well but the turkey had more taste so that was our preference. For anyone who likes pork, you might try the loin which did look amazing.

Our first side was the mac n cheese

The only disappointment of the bunch as it is just cheese sauce ladled over macaroni. This is an area for improvement and our preference would be for a version that is baked in an oven.

Second was cornbread

The cornbread was very good. Unlike most cornbread, this wasn’t dry at all and it definitely went well with the barbeque sauce.
And lastly coleslaw

This is house made and a version you will appreciate for its freshness.

We think that for his first attempt, owner Matt Gfroerer has found success with Smokeshow BBQ. The lines are most likely going to get longer so stop in as soon as you can.
